Conquering Our Anger

Rabbi Yohanan said in the name of Rabbi Yossi: from where do we know that the Holy Blessed One prays? As Scripture says: 鈥淚 will bring them to my sacred mountain and let them rejoice in [literally] the house of My prayer . . .鈥 (Isaiah 56:7). It doesn鈥檛 say 鈥渢he house of their prayer鈥, rather, 鈥渢he house of My prayer鈥, to teach us that the Holy Blessed One prays.

What does God pray? Mar Zutra bar Tuvia says in the name of Rav: 鈥淢ay it be My will that My mercy overcome My anger; My mercy dominate amongst My attributes; I act toward my children with the attribute of mercy; and I go beyond the strictures of the law for their sake.鈥
